Pitching Target
By Steven Ellis, former Chicago Cubs pitching pro
In pitching practice or when throwing bullpens, you'll get better performance from your pitcher if you provide him with a pitching target, preferably the catcher.
Other pitching targets or pitching training aids, such as The Pitching Pad, Pitchers Mate, or Leather Pitching Target may also be helpful.
It is difficult to pitch to an empty space with some presence of control, especially for young and inexperienced or beginning pitchers.
Young pitchers are often intimidated by a batter. A solid baseball pitching target will remove his concern for the hitter and give him a specific area of concentration.
It should be noted that if your using a catcher as the target, even in practice, he should wear full protective gear.
I use pitching targets in practice for all my pitchers and have found them to be very helpful.
